Here's a different angle on the hand cranks used to open and close the locks of the Lehigh canal
I think there's been a bit too much light in this one...but I love the shadows cast by the railings.

@Wayne: Your right there is, strangely enough it was so cold out that my camera wasn't responding to manual settings. I turned the dial to program mode and managed to get a shot that wasn't too washed out.
good call on the exposure .
These gears have seen a lot - nice one. I agree you could probably add a little contrast in post processing and gain back some of that. Looks like a tough lighting situation shooting towards the sun.

So when these cranks were used, were they manually operated? It's amazing how engineers did things.

@chiquitafilipina: Yep, hand powered. I don't think there was much of a choice at the time this was built. Thet are probably 150 or so years old.
