This is an old shot of one of those floods we have from time to time. As you can see alternate transportation was required !
Might be a good reason to call in at work :) I'd love to try the boat out ... looks fun! I like the colors in this one.

@Lyndsey Le: Everyone on my job was let out early that day. Unfortinatly the canoe wasn't an option for me I had to wade across ! Good thing it was summer and I had a pair of shorts stashed in the van .
Great picture. Very creative!

@Jen: Thanks much, and thank goodness for the wonders of auto focus ( I was mildly intoxicated at the time ).
Excellent Fred! Great capture! Can't go out and catch this shot everyday!

@Jerry: Thanks and your right, but more often then you'd think. The river flooded 20 ft. over normal level three times in the past two years.
This last one was the highest, my younger brother lucked out because if the water had risen 3 more inches it would had cascaded into his tavern !
I hate it when those floods happen:0)

@Craiger: Me too, but they do make for interesting photographs. Hmm I have a folder full of shots from this flood, maybe I'll run a series. ( to buy time for me to take more up to date pics )
great picture! I wouldn't mind seeing some more :)

@Donna: Ask and you shall receive !
Nice that your brother owns the tavern =D I like the composition of the shot...how the river's just partially visible through the open space between the end of the fence and the buidling...and the boat...just out of reach =D Its one of those so near yet so far kinda situations that make you go drat...I wish I had longer arms =D. Good one Fred!

@Wayne: I'm glad you like it ! ( Actually that's the road ) You can see what it looks like without all the water by going back a week or two on my blog. The shot is called Miles of bikers . I haven't figured out how to put the link here yet.
So you weren't on the miller lite? like this shot. Despite the situation it's full of humour.

@Carol: Nope, it's Long Island Iced Teas for me..lots of them ! As they say liquor is quicker . I'm glad you enjoyed the photo, more to follow on this topic .
smashing shot, lovely colour and sense of fun, even if the situation was less than ideal - every cloud ..

@jc: Good attitude, you'd fit right in. This flood didn't happen over night, actually it took about 3 days to peak. During that time the tavern was jammed with customers who were there not only to observe the rising water but to lend a hand in preparation to fend it off with sand bags and moving equipment to higher ground.
Not only that, also heavy duty pumps were supplied and set up in the basement by those who wanted to protect their watering hole. With my brief stints of soberness over those few days I remember it being more of a party atmosphere then one of panic .
One of the funnier activities was the fishing contest they had off of the deck ! Thanks for you comment.
Floods! You'll never run out of subject matter on the Delaware river!

@j. coleman miller: Ha ! You know me too well, looking back on my blog I see a good chunk of my photos are river related aren't they ? Next thing you know I'll digress to fishing stories about the big one that got away ! Plus the fact that there are a few taverns I enjoy on it's banks makes the river even more alluring .
